Suli An
Macedonia
Situated within the Old Bazaar in Skopje, Suli An is a popular monument of culture which attracts the attention of many visitors from Macedonia and abroad.
This beautiful han was built during the first half of the 15th century and bears the name Suli An, which means 'watery inn' due to a fact that a small river run near it. Suli An consists of a ground floor and first floor which are made of massive walls and arches. The rooms which are on the ground floor are used for storages of goods while the rooms situated on the first floor are for overnight traders and travelers. The inn survived several damages, the first one was in 1689 in a fire and in the earthquake in 1963 when the walls were totally destroyed. In 1972 Suli An was reconstructed and today it is a place where the Museum of the Old Bazaar is situated as well as the Faculty of Arts-Skopje.
