Hello adventurous travellers! Are you ready to ready to discover the most secret and underground monuments of this ancient city that are forgotten with the passing of time? Me and my friend George, invite you to explore with us the unknown history of Thessaloniki! In this tour you will see a variety of small unknown churches but also the most famous spots of the city. Both shape the important history of Thessaloniki. We are going to start at Kamara and head to our first destination which used to be the horseracing arena where people would gather and watch the horses and chariots race, like people do now with modern football! But there is a dark history behind what seems like a peaceful quiet street nowadays. Our next stop will be right next to Agia Sofia one of the biggest churches in Thessaloniki. However there are underground catacombs that no one knows about, ready to be explored, very close to this well known church. After we get a first taste of this amazing experience, we will visit a church which is below the street level and is the best preserved and most important examples of Christian architecture. Built on top of an ancient Roman bath and being the first church that was turnt into a mosque during the Ottoman occupation is one of the most important buildings of Thessaloniki. Our next historical sight is the ancient Roman forum where we will discover all the interesting aspects around it. Also we have to tell you about the column that shaped the forum's history during the time of the dictatorship in Greece in the 1960s. Of course we can't miss the Holy protector of the city Saint Dimitrios. Everyone knows about this famous church which is the most important symbol of early Christianity but who knows what's lied underneath the church? Then we have to try the most famous pastry of Thessaloniki at the best place! Enjoy with us the best Balkan sweet next to one of the most important churches for Christianity! Stick with us because there is still a lot to see! We can't miss the Musa Baba tomb in Ano Poli with the urban myth and the other unknown parts of one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Thessaloniki. To top it off we will finish our tour at the Gardens of Pasha which have a mysterious story surrounding them and a very good view of Thessaloniki! All in all you will get an insider's view of Thessaloniki throughout the ages, as well as how it feels like to live here in modern times. Special option: Insight into one of the most neglected but beautiful areas of Thessaloniki If you want to take a look at the most queer area of Thessaloniki where the people never slept and the lights never turnt off, let us take you to Vardaris. The entrance of Thessaloniki is now an echo of the old glamour and the gathering point of prostitutes, traders, soldiers and common working people. We will finish our walk at the catacomb of saint Dimitrios where we will witness a liturgy happening at the catacomb underneath the church!
